Five New Testing Methods Incorporated into Safety Technical Standards, Including Animal Alternatives!

TThe National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) has organized the drafting of five testing methods, including the Bovine Corneal Opacity and Permeability Test Method, In Vitro Skin Sensitization: Kinetic Direct Peptide Reactivity Assay (kDPRA), In Vitro Skin Absorption Test Method, Immunotoxicity Test Method, and Oral Mucosal Irritation Test Method. These methods have been reviewed and approved by the Chairperson’s Meeting of the NMPA Cosmetics Standardization Technical Committee and are hereby released for inclusion in the relevant chapters of the Safety and Technical Standards for Cosmetics (2015 Edition) (see Attachments). These five methods are newly added and will officially take effect on March 1, 2026. Prior to the effective date, cosmetic registrants and notifiers are encouraged to adopt these methods for relevant testing. Notice is hereby given.
